Since Becoming a Parent

They say becoming a parent changes you. I didn’t know how true this would be, but here are a few things I’ve discovered since becoming a parent.

  • You all drive way to fast. In fact, I think we should all start walking again. I’ve never ever been worried about drivers before I became a parent.
  • I think they should invent a liquid-proof clothing line for new moms. I’d invest. I never realized how much fluid is involved with becoming a parent.
  • My boobs have always been amazing. Worthy of oogling. Now, they are huge, covered in stretch marks and sag tremendously, but for the first time in my life I feel they are more cherished and adorable than ever.
  • Who has time for vanity? I can’t believe how much time I wasted thinking about and worrying about how I looked in the past. Since becoming a parent, I’m just happy if I’m clean.
  • I liked to nap before. Now, I am a full-fledged nap zealot. A nap a day keeps Mommy okay. Seriously, have you tried napping? It’s awesome.
  • I’ve always loved my parents, but I never realized the extent of their love until I became a parent. It’s a love bigger than words can describe. And that’s an understatement.

From the mouth of the childfree gal: remember when you used to drive fast too? Do that again. You’re in my way.

I think moms should get to wear bibs too. Technically, the ones who really need them are moms. Rock a bib, Syd. You can totally do it! :-)

Royann said something about how she hasn’t had a hot meal since she had kids.

You moms are far more patient than I could ever be. I’m glad y’all are doing it. I prefer to be the spoiler auntie with the loud toys and candy. :-)

(I did actually feel my heart explode recently when Jimmy, the elder neph, told me he liked the letter best in the two boxes I sent. I sent snacks and fun stuff, and he liked my LETTER best of all. Oh my swoon!)

I’m a little sad to not know this, especially that last one.

And yes, we all need more naps. And to adore our boobs.

Ms. Pants, I do not doubt your Neph said it was your letter he loved best. Your words are better than candy. I’m going to design a mom bib, just you watch. And no, I will not speed up, but I’ll move over for you hot rod baby.

Jodie, here’s to naps and boobs.

I agree, but especially about the last 2. Naps are the BEST.

Naps are awesome. We try to take them every weekend now, when Maia goes down for one. Thankfully she sleeps 2 1/2 hours a day in the afternoon, so there’s plenty of time to get a really good one in. I took a mental health day today and I will be taking an awesome nap later this afternoon.

I’m going to have to say I agree with you on all of these things. Why did I think going 95 mph was safe?!

Well said! I could not agree more! As I nurse my one month old… :)
