After 32 hours of labor, Chris and I finally got to meet our beautiful son by caesarean section. Brennus Edain Markle was born Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 7:57 am. He weighed 9 lbs. 2 oz. and was 20 ΒΌ inches long.
We began at home Monday night, when my water broke just before midnight. Eventually, I’ll write the full birth story, as I am still recovering and basking in the glory of my baby son. For now the short of it is we labored for a long time but my cervix did not progress beyond 4 cm, and eventually my healthcare providers were concerned about infection. So, after 24 hours of laboring at home, we transferred to the hospital and I was given pitocin and an epidural. The pitocin started to help my contractions progress; however, Bren didn’t react well to the intensity. At that point, we decided he would have to be delivered surgically.
He came out yelling, as Chris described his birth to me over the blue sheet. I cried and laughed. Then laughed some more. He’s very healthy and we are spending lots of time together as I recover from the surgery. Honestly, I’m totally in love and I couldn’t be happier that I am finally holding my son. He really is the most amazing and perfect baby ever created. Seriously.
I’ll be taking a bit of a hiatus for now, but I’ll be back soon with lots of stories and adventures featuring Bren and the Markle tribe. In the meantime, here are a few extra photos taken by Bridget Norris, from F.I.S.H. Studio.
