Father’s Day

We are now nine days past our due date. I’ve been to see my mid-wife twice this week and things are progressing, but I have not gone into labor yet. We’ve had many toning contractions, otherwise known as Braxton Hicks, but nothing strong or progressive. So, we’ve been spending a lot of time either walking, or lying down (to keep my blood pressure down) and watching movies.

Yesterday, my mother took a few photos of Chris and I while we were on one of our walks.

Today is father’s day. So, I’d like to honor two very important men in my life, my husband and my father. My father and my step-mother drove 3500 miles from Texas to be here with us this week. He’s been a hoot, he always is, but he helps keep my spirits high. And each time he comes over to hang out with us as we wait for the Sprout, the baby kicks and squirms. I think he recognizes his grandpa’s voice. Since my parents live so far away, it is nice to have them here this week. When he found out I’m planning on having a home birth, he said, “Okay, I’ll wait outside.” So, I like to tease him that I’ll need him to hold my hair during labor. At which point, he goes pale, laughs shakily and says, “No way.”

My husband has been my rock. It’s easy to get discouraged waiting for this little guy to make his entrance. Chris has been great, reminding me that I’m not that far over due and walking with me every day. He also makes me laugh constantly, talking to the baby and singing to him. He helps remind me to take my blood pressure and to not get stressed with all the waiting. I really don’t know what I’d do without him. He’s going to be a wonderful father (some day – hahaha, fingers crossed it’s soon). In all seriousness, that man has been tremendous at putting up with my crazy whims, insecurities and down right battiness. He makes me a better woman.

Kisses on a nature walk

Keep your fingers crossed, perhaps the Sprout will decided today is the day. I’m off to walk a few miles for encouragement.
