No longer counting the weeks, I’ve started counting the days until our Sprout is due to arrive—twenty three days. That seems like such a small number.
As the weeks dwindle to days, I been thinking about the world we live in and the things I can’t wait to show to our Sprout. I mean, it’s a wild world baby. You know. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the doom. But these days, I feel lucky to have the opportunity to rediscover what makes being alive so much fun.
The first thing I’ll show him is my smile, to be followed shortly thereafter by laughter—two fundamental elements to having fun while your alive. We can move on from there to silly faces. Sunshine. Clouds. Birds. Rocks. Dirt. Dogs and cats, especially the ones that are part of our household. I can’t wait to show him how Bobby does that funny sigh. And Gueny peeps and squeaks at the birds.
From there we can move on to more complex elements of wahoo and whoopee—music and dancing, for example. Jumping around and acting totally silly. Books and reading and making up silly stories. Words. Rhymes. Talking very softly and YELLING OUT LOUD (for fun).
There’s rainbows and frogs. Tiny crawly bugs and earthworms that come out when it rains. Snail trails that glisten in the sun like magical maps to a fairy kingdom. Tiny pine cones. Sunsets and sunrises. Blankets and snuggling underneath blue twinkly lights. Shooting stars. The ever changing moon.
Oh-so many things to rediscover! I simply can’t wait—twenty three days.
…and the face after first time ice cream and lemons. Little better than the reaction to an inaugural bite of a lemon wedge, the total suprise but, often, not horror.
