Gleaned Links from The Web

Glean: (verb) to collect or gather anything little by little or slowly. I glean the web, gathering bits of information, links, photos and quotes. Here are some bits that I gleaned. Enjoy!

» How To Sleep Well Every Night – How To Relax Every Day from Pzizz : I love this kind of stuff. I listen to deep sleep sounds at night. This one looks pretty cool.

» Nursery Design from Serenea and Lily: I saw this paper crane instillation over a crib at Design Mom. So sweet. Now, I’m trying to brainstorm other cute lightweight ideas for a whimsical instillation over the crib (out of reach, of course) for Sprout. Any one have any ideas? Stars? Flying monkeys!? Paper airplanes?

» Some may face penalty for shunning health insurance from CNN.com: I don’t want to get deep into political commentary. I think the bill is perhaps a beginning; however, there are a few things that I don’t agree with. The more complicated tax code, for one. And this penalty for another. I think we should have the right to choose health coverage or not. I went without health coverage for about 10 years and it was much less expensive for me as a healthy person to pay for my health care out of pocket than to purchase over-priced, under-delivered coverage I didn’t need. But that was just my experience. I don’t think the government should regulate my health care payment choices. If I have the cash, let me pay cash.

In fact, I think the health care industry would only be improved by removing the need for insurance coverage all together. Perhaps with a better pricing structure, or financing options, or charity funds? Then we wouldn’t have a middleman more interested in making a profit than patient care between us and our health care needs. Legislating a middleman between me and my doctor is a bad idea.

» High-fructose corn syrup linked to obesity from Kottke:

“Researchers at Princeton have shown that if you keep the number of calories the same, rats eating high-fructose corn syrup “gained significantly more weight” than rats who ate table sugar.”

Are we surprised? The research also suggests sugar addiction has a similar effect on the brain as drug addiction.
