I’m Going To Summer Camp

I’m going to camp on Wednesday. It is one of my favorite times of the year. This is my third year to attend the Emerald Sanctuary belly dance retreat. It is such a fun event, three days jammed packed with camping, dancing, swimming, hula hooping, lounging, laughing and hanging out with my friends.

Grand Coulee - The Entrance to the Park
I took this photo two years ago at camp.

The event is in western Washington near Grand Cooley. It is an amazing area that is like a mini-Grand Canyon. There are soaring rock cliffs, winding rivers, bright blue skies and desert. A memory that I will forever cherish is dancing under a rolling night sky at 3 am in the desert. You know, the dark of night just isn’t that dark when there is no light pollution.

I’m very excited this year there will be a poi workshop. I bought a set of practice poi a little over a year ago. On my own, I’ve learned a few small tricks but I’m looking forward to live action learning. The schedule so far looks like this:

Friday
9:30-10 AM: Yoga
10-11 AM: Bodacious Bellies
11 AM-1 PM: Moroccan Shikhat Fusion
1-4PM: Lunch, Swimming, Naptime
4-5:30 PM: Drumming with George Sadak
5:30-6:30 PM: Advanced Zills
6:30-9 PM: Dinner
9pm-Late: Friday Night Hafla (Dance Party)

10-12:30 AM: Drilling Technique & Combos
1-4PM: Lunch, Swimming, Naptime

9pm-Late: Saturday Night Hafla (Dance Party)

Sunday

10-12 AM: Breathing Life into your Dance

So, you won’t hear much from me for the next week. It’s going to be a blast!

Hahaha. Well I certainly laughed a lot and my sides do hurt a bit, but it’s more from all the hard work. It was a wonderful trip. I’ll post an update soon.
