Google Calendar, Chores and Weekend Visitors

Posted by Syd on June 28, 2009.

Last week I made a strong attempt at keeping up with my household chores all week. I have this great system, using Google calendar, that reminds me of the daily things I can do too keep up with the chores. For the most part I ignore the list. I really want to make a change and make things easier so I pledged to stick to it for the week. I get a C+. But realistically I should get at least a B on the curve because it turned out to be very convenient when an out of town visitor showed up spontaneously. Our friend, Scott, had a photography assignment in Seattle. He had an extra day to hang around before his flight back to NYC, so we got the extra special pleasure of his company Friday and Saturday night.

After a delicious dinner at Flyers, the boys all went out on Friday evening and I got to have the house to myself. I decided to check out True Blood and got several episodes into the show. It’s really appealing to me for several reasons: vampires, the south and an awesome soundtrack. I’m thinking of checking out the books by Charlaine Harris.

Saturday, at breakfast we had a chance encounter with another friend. We went to this local greasy spoon, picked the first empty booth. On the wall, was a photo of their good friend JJ on a fishing boat in Alaska.

After breakfast, we drove Scott around Whidbey as it was his first time to visit the island. The day was gorgeous and he let me borrow his fancy polarizing filter for my camera. Here is a little slide show of are some of the photos I got during our adventures. [Edit: suddenly embedded slide shows are not working, so I'll have to find a solution. In the meantime, here are some of my favorites]

He left before dawn to catch his flight back to NYC. It was a great visit and I’m glad I didn’t have to stress too much about cleaning the house thanks to keeping new habits and an extra hand from Chris.
