A couple of weeks of collection and it’s time to share my favorite links and goodies from around the Internet. Enjoy!

Techniques for taming pet fur tumbleweeds

If your pet routinely uses a bed, drape its bed with a fleece blanket. If there is a favorite spot where he likes to curl up, lay a fleece blanket in that location. Fleece blankets act like giant magnets for pet hair because of their inherent static nature. Roll up the blanket and throw it in the washer once a week, and for extra pull, dry it without a dryer sheet.

In the park by 11 am by Oh Happy Day.

My grandma tells the story that the nurse was very strict and said “there is no excuse not to have everything done and be in the park by 11:00 am.” So everyday my grandma would get up, feed the baby, clean up, do laundry, etc. and be in the park by 11. I always think about that and in turn try to be out of the house doing something by 11.

Photo Essay: Alison. Stunning and moving. Check it out.

The significance of these pictures emerges in retrospect. I realize as I look at them, that I created a visual life story of Alison, capturing moments in her metamorphosis from infant to woman-her relationships with friends, her rebellion, and underlying it all, her relationship with me, a constant throughout her life. I wanted to photograph her in all her extremes, and to be part of these times in her life without judging or censoring. Only in this way would I have a true portrait of Alison.

Guerilla Gardening

The guerrilla gardening phenomenon is currently sweeping the globe as folks are finding innovative ways to come together for the optimization of neglected land and paved surface area. It’s a turf war for some, or a poetic gesture for others, but either way, citizens are rolling up there sleeves to create gardens in the most unlikely spaces and places.

the fleece blanket tip works! Maddie has one that she gets wrapped up in every night (well, when it was cold) and it’s covered in hair. i need to wash it/dry it, and then put it on one of my new couches and see if it’ll keep the hair from getting on the couch. i’ve banned her from our new couches after my mom vacuumed them. i’ve used regular flat sheets before and the hair just goes right through them, no matter how high the thread count… well, i’ve only used up to a 500 thread count sheet and the hair still gets thru them. i can’t picture myself spending $50 on a 1000 thread count sheet from TJ Maxx just for the dog. plus, i think the fleece blanket won’t tear as easily. a 200 thread count sheet is like paper to dog’s nails.
