Basketball Diaries — Three stars
This has been on my list to of movies to see for some time. I finally got around to watching it and I thought was good. Leonardo did a very fine job of playing a junkie. I guess. Not that I know any junkies or have ever watched one of them plumb to the depths of hell and back.
I found myself crying during the movie, especially the parts where the main character interacted with his mother. I don’t really get why anyone would ever even try crack. It looks like the cost of doing it far out weighs any good feeling or buzz you could get.

The Hours — Four and half stars
I’ve seen it before. This was the second time I watched the movie. It didn’t move me as much as it did the first time, but it was still a great movie. It was a great book too. I may get very little pleasure reading Virginia Woolf, but reading and hearing about her life intrigues me to no end.
The story is a bit depressing though — left me feeling melancholy. I only recommend this movie if you are in the mood for that sort of thing.
O’ Brother Where Art Thou — Four stars
Again, this was a re-run for me. Hot damn I like this movie. I think the Coen brothers are genius. Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski are two of my other favorites from these boys.
This movie just leaves me feeling satisfied, from the music to the cinematography to the story, its just plain good.
May — Two and half stars
I saw the preview for this a long time ago and forgot about it until I saw it on the shelf. This movie is just plain weird and gory. However, it wasn’t the kind of gory movie that made feel sick. There was just enough blood for it to be funny, but nothing too graphic.
The problem, and the reason I don’t give it very many stars, was the plot. Okay, this girl has a lazy eye, so she never makes any friends. What!? A lazy eye? Give me a break. I am sure that eventually she could have made friends with someone. I mean come on. I just don’t buy it.
And in the end, she just goes psycho, kills people for their body parts, and sews them all together so she can have a friend. Eh. Whatever. But it is fun for a laugh and I did really like the actress who played May.
K-Pax — Three and half stars
Another re-run. I like Kevin Spacey. I like Jeff Bridges. I like the idea of a more advanced civilization somewhere out there. Put them all together, not a bad movie. Oh and it has crazy people. I like crazy people. So, yeah, I like the movie.
Swimming — Three stars
This is a Sundance film. The main character is the redheaded chick from Six Feet Under. She was good in the movie. The problem was it just dragged on a bit, as many independent films do. Or maybe I was just tired and wanted to go to bed. Could be.
It was about a girl coming of age, there’s a hotty and a hippy that come to town, yada yada, her whole life changes. Except, well, it really doesn’t.
Sunday
Catch Me If You Can — Four stars
Ah yes, started with Dicaprio, ended with Dicaprio. Completely unintentional I assure you. Good movie. Elements of excitement, sex, mystery, melancholy and chase. Also, nothing blew up, which was nice. I hate it when things blow up for no good reason.
Speilberg did a nice job with this. I didn’t really like Tom Hank’s character, but I think that was the point. We were supposed to grow to like him.
I guess this is what I have to say about it, it wasn’t a boring movie.

Why did I watched so many movies this weekend? Friday afternoon a pain started in my body that didn’t subside until Sunday morning. So, I spent the entire weekend on the couch nursing my ache.
Actually, I kind of enjoyed a legitimate reason to lie around and do nothing for an entire weekend. I needed the recuperation time.
Anyway, next time you are looking for a movie to watch I hope my reviews helps you choose.
